Title - DMRC to acquire 1.62 lakh sqm for Metro phase III

Delhi Metro will acquire over 1.62 lakh square metre of land from private ownership for its ambitious phase III network in the national Capital. In the Metro phase III, 120 km would be added to its existing network. Apart from the residential areas of upmarket south Delhi colonies such as Panchsheel Enclave, Greater Kailash and Munirka, the total land to be acquired also includes the land under the private commercial properties such as Savitri Cinema, Escorts Hospital and that of Laxman Public School.According to the sources, speedy sanctioning of the land is crucial for the Metro to meet its 2016 deadline for the completion of the phase III network.A total of 120 km have been sanctioned to be constructed under the challenging phase III network of Delhi Metro. This phase will involve construction of two new corridors including the 59 km Mukundpur to Shiv Vihar corridor, which will be the longest in Delhi Metro’s network. The line running along the arterial Ring Road and will pass through some of the most congested areas of the city such as Rajouri Garden, Dhaula Kuan, Anand Vihar before terminating at Shiv Vihar. This is followed by the 36.988 km Janakpuri West to Botanical Garden Corridor running along the Outer Ring Road, which will make commuting to Noida easier.The other Corridors of the network include the extension of present Violet Line (Badarpur to Central Secretariat) to Kashmere Gate on one end and Faridabad on the other end, Yellow Line extension to Badli (4.49 km) and Blue Line extension to Najafgarh (5 Km). This phase will have the longest underground stretch of 44.04 km and 66 km will be elevated one.

According to the sources, a total of 1,62,762.25 square metre of land under the private ownership will be required for the construction of the phase III network. “The largest private land requirement is in GK Enclave I and II, where 28,888 sq m have to be acquired for the construction of an entry/exit for the upcoming station in the area and an ancillary station building. At Badli pockets 1 to 4 a total of 12,1727 sq m of land will be required for the construction of a viaduct, station entry/exit point and ramp, followed by an area of 2,971 sq m at Bhakti Vedant Swami Marg Okhla and Ashram areas for the construction of station building and 1,209 sq m at Dasrathpuri for the construction of station box,” said an official source.

Apart from these, various private commercial and residential areas will have to part with land pockets for the Metro construction. “A total of 133.21 sq m area of the Escorts Hospital will be acquired for construction of an entry/exit point for the metro station, 120 sq m at Laxman Public School for the station construction, 129.24 sq m at Jamia for the construction of a viaduct, a total of 193.67 sq m area of Janakpuri Hilton Hotel, Mota Singh School for the construction of a station box, 8 sq m area of Savitri Cinema at GK-III  to construct entry/exit point, 147.21 sq m land from Parsi Guest house, Delhi Gate to construct an entry/exit point and another 87.99 sq m of the land under William Masonic Hospital,” added the source.
