Mumbai: French transport engineering firm, Systra, consulted commuter groups over the plan to build the Mumbai-Ahmedabad high-speed railway corridor on Thursday.
The 492-km network aims to reduce travel time between the two financial hubs from seven hours to two-and-a-half hours.
The meeting assumes significance ahead of a visit to India by French President Francois Hollande. “The consultant is here to study the demand, fare affordability, train halts, profile of travellers and frequency of services,” an official said.
“I suggested that the train should start from Andheri and halt at Vadodara, Surat and Vapi,” said Shailesh Goyal, member of national rail users consultative committee.
