The Mysore division of South Western Railway has registered growth in freight earnings and passenger traffic in the current financial year.Divisional Railway Manager Vinod Kumar said in a press release on Sunday that the division had recorded the highest freight-loading ever, giving a boost to its overall performance.The division had handled 0.798 million tonnes freight till December at an average of 397 wagons a day. This surpasses the previous record of 0.755 million tonnes achieved in March 2008, he said.Mr. Kumar said the division had also registered a record in loading 0.598 million tonnes of iron ore , which surpasses the previous record of 0.506 million tonnes achieved in July 2011.He said there was an increase of 21.8 per cent in earnings.Earnings between April and December 2012 were Rs. 439 crore, around 21.16 per cent more that the Rs. 362 crore earned in the previous financial year.Mr. Kumar said the division had also improved passenger amenities such as escalators, digital waitlist and reservation chart and drinking water facilities.Installation of LCD screens by the Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation to provide city bus schedules would be ready soon, he said. |
