Title - RAIL NEWS CENTER: Railway staff college to celebrate its 62nd foundation day

VADODARA: City-based Railway Staff College, the apex training and management development institute for the officers of the Indian Railways, will celebrate its 62nd Foundation Day on Thursday. 

The college was initially founded in 1930 at Premnagar in Dehradun. It then shifted to its present regal sylvan surroundings at Lalbaug in the city in 1952. 

Located at the Pratap Vilas Palace, which was built in 1914 by the Gaekwads, the rulers of erstwhile Baroda state, the college trains not only newly appointed railway officers but also senior managers and executives. Besides, it trains officers of other group 'A' services of the government of India as also officers of other organizations, and those from foreign railways. 

On Thursday, general manager of Western Railway Mahesh Kumar, who is looking after the post of director general of the college will be presiding over the function. 

Former union minister and currently Chancellor of Gandhinagar-based Central University of Gujarat Dr Y K Alagh will be the chief guest and key note speaker during the foundation day programme. 

The Indian Railways employs around 1.4 million employees, of which around 15,000 group 'A' and group 'B' officers including medical officers get regularly trained in the college in various basic and advanced management courses. This college is thus called alma mater of all officers of the Indian Railways. 

The college will also confer the distinguished alumnus award to Padma Shri awardee S B Ghosh Dastidar, retired member traffic of Railway Board during the foundation day celebration.  Source - timesofindia
