Indian Railways commenced their campaign with fine victories in the men as well as women's section on the opening day of the 63rd Senior National Basketball Championship at the Guru Nanak Dev Indoor Stadium here today.In Men's Level I Group B match, Indian Railways, trailing by two points in the first quarter (18-20), outplayed Andhra Pradesh by 85-51.The Railways team scored comfortable win in the next three quarters. In the fourth and last quarter, Railways sunk baskets at will to post a 29-8 verdict. Railways had won the second and third quarters by 19-10 and 19-13.Prakesh Mishra (25) and Carmel Joseph (12) were the star performers for Railways. For AP, Shiv Kumar and Kullu contributed 11 and 10 points, respectively.In a Level I Group A well-contested fixture, riding on the fine scoring skills of Narender Grewal (27) and Gopal Ram (21), Services defeated Karnataka by 73-64 (23-17, 17-12, 18-15, 15-20).Geethu Anna Jose displayed terrific form as Railways outplayed Delhi by 107-57 points (31-20, 29-10, 18-15, 29-12) in a Level I Group A match. Scoring from all angles Geethu recorded 51 points. Manisha Dangi (12), M. Pushpa (10) and Anju Lakra (10) also made significant contribution.For Delhi, Raspreet Sidhu (15), Madhu Kumari (10) and Pratima Singh (10) reduced the margin.
