The Indian Railways proposed to recruit more sportspersons aimed at encouraging youngsters in the country, Union Railway Minister Pawar Kumar Bansal today said. Speaking after inaugurating the 125th anniversary celebrations of the Kozhikode Railway Station here, he said the step would be a great leap for sportspersons in the country. Despite facing financial constraints, the largest transporter in the country would do everyting possible for its development and providing improved passenger amenities. The Railways, which catered to 2.30 crore passengers and carried 23 tons of freight everyday on its vast network, faced more challenges. He said, Kozhikode Station was among 21 stations identified in the State for construction of multiple complexes as part of development programmes. Work on upgrading Kozhikode Railway Station to world standard would be done under public private partnership. Mr Bansal said the government would consider the demands submitted by the State Government for the development of the Railways in the State. More UNI PCH GM 1738 NNNN
