HYDERABAD: Forensic experts found traces of fire crackers in the ill-fated S-11 coach of the Tamil Nadu Express that was gutted in July. However , experts were not able to establish what triggered the fire in which 32 people lost their lives.

In their report to the Government Railway Police, Andhra Pradesh Forensic Science Laboratory (APFSL) experts stated that the "origin of the fire in Tamil Nadu Express was not known" . However, cracker material inside the bogie enabled the fire to spread quickly. The APFSL experts said they found traces of fire crackers in the gutted S-11 coach. "No traces of petro chemicals or explosives used by terrorists like ammonium nitrate or RDX have been found in the bogie ," an FSL source said. The forensic team had analyzed samples collected from the gutted coaches and the results revealed the presence of chemicals used in fire crackers like potassium chlorate, potassium nitrate, aluminum, magnesium and sulphur in the charred remains.
