Porters at Visakhapatnam railway station recovered two bags containing the parts of a dead body on the zero line railway tracks on Monday.
Going by the parts of the body, police confirmed that it is that of a man aged between 35 and 40 years; the face looks like that of an Odisha tribal, but only a post-mortem report can establish initial findings.
DSP of Government Railway Police V. Bheema Rao said that porters and sanitary staff of the railway station noticed two bags lying on zero line railway track near platform five. He said that the body was cut into pieces and stuffed in two bags and left near the track.
Police suspect that the crime was committed early on Monday, as the odour was minimal. Police also suspect that the culprits committed the crime somewhere on the Andhra-Odisha border areas and dumped the parts of the body at the railway station, after travelling in a train.
Police sent the bags to King George Hospital in the city for post-mortem.
Bheema Rao said that with the support of city police, they would inform all police stations in Visakhapatnam, Vizianagaram and Srikakulam districts and send the photograph of the head of the body. Special teams would start looking into the list of missing persons.
