Title - Hampi Express tragedy: Train accident probe over

The South Western Railway (SWR), on Friday, concluded their investigation on the Hampi Express accident that killed 25 passengers and injured at least 40 others early on Tuesday at Penukonda in Andhra Pradesh.

Initial reports said the driver jumped the signal and crashed the train into a goods train at Penukonda station. SK Mittal, commissioner of railway safety, southern circle, said the findings of the report would be published in 10 days.

“We have collected all evidence and are analysing them. The report will be ready in 10 days,” he said.

Meanwhile, the ex-gratia amount for those injured in the accident was fully distributed. A sum of Rs100,000 each was handed over to the 14 grievously injured passengers. With this, all the grievous injury cases have been attended to.

A sum of Rs50,000 was handed over to each of the passengers with simple injuries on May 23 itself.
