The Karaikal Rail Users Association has demanded extension of following trains up to Karaikal, and announcements to this effect be made in the Railway Budget 2013-14:The Rail Users Association has called for extension of the following trains : Nagore –Bangalore up to Karaikal ; Nagore-Tiruchi passenger extended up to Karaikal and further extended as fast passenger from Karaikal-Palakkad; Madurai-Sengottai be extended up to Karaikal; Karaikal-Tiruchi (train 56711) be extended up to Madurai; Nagore-Tiruchi (train 56713) be extended up to Karaikal; Tiruchi-Tirunelveli (train 22627) up to Karaikal.The association has also called for addition of new trains in the budget: Karaikal-Thiruvananthapuram-Kochuveli via Nagapattinam-Thanjavur-Tiruchi-Pudukottai-Manamadurai-Virudhunagar-Tirunelveli-Nagercoil; Karaikal-Chennai Day Express service; Karaikal-Coimbatore night Express service; and Karaikal-Ajmer/Jaipur Express service.Further, demand has been made for introduction of new service in the Karaikal-Thirunallar-Tharangambadi-Mayiladuthurai route. In a communication to The Hindu , V.R.Dhanaseelanae, president, Rail Users Association, has said that revenue earnings of the Tiruchi division of the Southern Railways through its freight operations for the Karaikal Port ,could be ploughed back for extension of additional services for Karaikal railway stretch. The division has acknowledged the stretch as its ‘golden pocket’ with 40 percent of its revenue earnings from its freight operations here, Mr.Dhanaseelanae has stated. |
