Title - SCR apprehends travel agents

The practice of travel agents issuing tickets illegally to railway passengers and making merry came to light yet again with South Central Railway (SCR) apprehending over 60 agents till April this year.

These agents were arrested during special raids by SCR authorities at Passenger Reservation System (PRS) centres at railway stations, satellite reservation centres, unauthorised travel agents office premises and post offices across the State.

During the raids, which were conducted from January to April, 67 agents, including one at Hayathnagar Post Officewere arrested and cases were registered against them under Railways Act.

A total of 23 tatkal tickets and nine non-tatkal tickets worth Rs.95,000 and Rs.12,000 cash were seized from these agents.

Most of these agents were arrested for purchasing tickets on fictitious names and selling the same to other passengers purchasing more tickets repeatedly by standing in queues at PRS centres and other means, said SCR Chief Public Relations Officer.


Over 60 agents arrested between January and April for selling tickets that were purchased on fictitious names
