Title - South Western Railway improve its line capacity and infrastructure

South Western Railway (SWR) will concentrate on developing its infrastructure and line capacity at different sections.

Ashok Kumar Mital, General Manager, South Western Railway (SWR) said “In the current financial year, 41.5 km of new Railway lines, 27 km of gauge conversion and 44 km of doublings is targeted for completion.”

Besides the revamp, SWR has completed its work on the 11.5 km new line between Kannivehalli-Chikmagalur, seven km of doubling between Channapatna-Settihalli, and 27 km of gauge conversion between Chintamani-Siddlaghatta.

Moreover, Mital said “The preliminary engineering-cum-traffic survey for laying of the new BG line from Mysore to Kushalnagar (84.5 km) has been completed. The survey report, with estimated cost of Rs 667 crore, was submitted to the Railway Board on October 12.”

He also stated that the land acquisition process can only be started after the work of construction of new line is approved by Ministry of Railways.

“We have taken various measures to improve safety, security, passenger amenities, cleanliness and punctuality. The punctuality of running of mail/express trains and passenger trains have been maintained 95 per cent and 97 per cent respectively up to September 2012.” he added.
