Title - Wagon derails on Konkan Railway, long-distance trains delayed

MUMBAI: At least five long-distance trains, including two holiday specials from Mumbai to Goa and a TrivandrumRajdhani Express, were held up for more than three hours as a goods wagon derailed on Konkan Railway (KR)'s network at Roha on Friday.The incident occurred at 4pm. Trains were running three to four hours behind schedule, with thousands of passengers being majorly inconvenienced, sources said.KR chief public relations officer Siddheshwar Telugu said, "The trains which were stopped were taken to the nearest station. After the derailment of the goods wagon, in which nobody was injured, we had to take safety precautions and halt five trains. The line is being cleared and we expect things to return to normal by night."State transport buses were deployed outside stations in case some passengers wanted to travel by road. "We asked local depots to provide the buses," a MSRTC official said.

The railway has instituted an inquiry into the derailment and the driver of the goods wagon was being questioned in this connection."There was no casualty in the incident. It is an unfortunate incident and had affected running of five trains. But we had to stop the trains at various stations in view of passenger safety," an official added.
