LUCKNOW: To decide on the proposed metro route in the capital, officials from Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) and Metro Special Cell held a meeting for many hours on Tuesday. DMRC team approved the older DPR (detailed project report) of metro asking the local officials to begin work as per proposed route. The Metro Special Cell and DMRC team has also decided on a few alternations in the proposed older route. It has been decided that if there are certain obstacles in the older route and if a new route in that specific area can be chosen, the proposed route recommended by the DPR can be altered as per need. DMRC has also recommended making underground tracks in few areas. The DMRC team had come to Lucknow on Tuesday morning to discuss the metro project with the local authorities. The meeting with DMRC officials was held at Awas Bandhu office in Lalbagh area, headed by the housing secretary and chairman of metro cell, Rajiv Aggarwal. The meeting continued fro about 4-5 hours.

DMRC is recommending construction of metro track of about 37 km in the first phase. The meeting has also suggested few alternations in the older route. In the initial DPR, DMRC had suggested construction of 13 kms of underground track. The team has emphasized on less underground operation, considering financial and security issues. That is why, engineers of Metro Special Cell have been instructed to do a survey of the proposed route again.

Housing secretary has hinted that road map of Lucknow metro would be clear in another 15 days. He said that he would go to Delhi next week for discussing the project status with DMRC team again.
