Railway Minister M. Mallikarjun Kharge said that the Centre was willing to sanction a military or a paramilitary battalion to Gulbarga district for which the State government would have to provide 200 acres of land for free infrastructure facilities, including water and electricity.He was speaking after launching the construction of a new railway overbridge (ROB) on Jewargi Road near Mother Teresa School here on Friday.Mr. Kharge said that Home Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde had assured him that a military or a paramilitary battalion would be sanctioned to Gulbarga district.Mr. Kharge said that the foundation stone for establishing a textile park on the Gulbarga-Shahabad Road would be laid in September.The Centre has provided Rs. 18 crore for the establishment of the textile park. Once it is ready, it is expected to provide jobs to 5,000 people. Mr. Kharge said that the Railways has given its nod for a new railway overbridge on the Gulbarga-Afzalpur State highway on the road leading to the Gulbarga Circuit Bench of the Karnataka High Court at a cost of Rs. 28 crore.The foundation stone is likely to be laid in September or October first week. In principle the Railways has decided to do away with manned and unmanned railway crossings by constructing railway overbridges. He said that the proposed new ROB on Jewargi Road would cost around Rs. 20 crore and would replace the existing narrow ROB constructed in 1967.
