Union Minister of State for Railways Kotla Jaya Suryaprakash Reddy inspected the kitchen and stalls on the platforms in Vijayawada Railway Station on Monday.He enquired with the passengers on prices of different food items and asked the Railways officials about amenities provided for public on platforms.Mr. Suryaprakash Reddy, along with MP Lagadapati Rajagopal, MLAs Yelamanchili Srinivas and Malladi Vishnu, Divisional Railway Manager Pradeep Kumar, Collector Budha Prakash M. Jyothi and Vijayawada Municipal Corporation Commissioner G.S. Panda Das walked into the kitchen on Platform No.6.The Minister interacted with the passengers in the canteen and enquired about the quality of dishes. He went into the waiting hall and the toilets and observed the sanitation. Mr. Suryaprakash Reddy visited the stalls on Platform Nos. 1 and 10.

Review meet:At a meeting, the Railway Minister held discussions with VMC, district officials, police and the SCR officials and enquired the progress of pending projects in Vijayawada.Speaking to the newsmen later, Mr. Suryaprakash Reddy said a satellite station is proposed at Gunadala to ease traffic at Vijayawada railway station. The ROB works at Gunadala will begin in two months. Already, five lifts and equal number of escalators were sanctioned for the main railway station.

Indian Railways is ready to sanction more lifts and escalators, if necessary, he said, and assured to discuss the Jakkampudi drainage outlet and the Nynavaram bridge issues with SCR General Manager and reduce the amount to be paid to the Railways.

Stating that the government is giving priority for passengers’ safety the Minister said, “Our aim is to provide safe journey and supply quality food to the passengers. In future, we will take measures to improve amenities at all the railway stations in the State,” Mr. Suryaprakash Reddy said.
