K.P. Ramalingam, Rajya Sabha MP, has threatened to go on a hunger strike in front of the office of the Divisional Railway Manager (DRM), Salem Division, on June 1, 2013, if the Union Government and the railways do not take steps to operate all the passenger and express trains that were announced on the Salem-Karur route via Namakkal before May 31.He was addressing the gathering after inaugurating a high mast lamp erected at Kalipatti near Mallasamudram, in Tiruchengode Taluk, from his constituency development funds. The MP said that work for the 17-year-old project was initiated by the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam. “The several hundred crore project has been completed and the Commissioner for Railway Safety, who inspected the track a few months ago along with other top railway officials, also gave his clearance for operating passenger trains on this route. Despite the clearance and announcement of about half a dozen trains on this route through Namakkal district, the Union Government was delaying the operation of trains on this route”, he said. | ||
