VADODARA: He may not be able to steal any more bags, a job which he was doing with perfection at the railway stations for three decades. Health of Shankar Maiji (55), who was allegedly involved in a series of bag lifting offences, has now begun to fail. A common feature on notice boards and records of police stations and outposts of the railway police, Maiji was detained by the railway police on Thursday.A resident of Mangrol in Karjan taluka of Vadodara district, he was detained at Itola railway station by head constable Maijibhai Dahyabhai when he found him loitering there. According to police, a detention under the Criminal Procedures Code is a standard practice if someone is found to be involved in a suspicious activity.According to sources, Maiji had started stealing bags from railway stations 30 years ago. He is unmarried and has lost touch with all his family members. "He has sold his house at Mangrol and keeps moving around railway stations and bus stands, spending most of his time there. No fresh offence has been registered against him recently, but we have to keep an eye on him given his background," said the head constable who detained him. | ||
