The state government on Thursday said it would forward the metro rail proposal with the revised cost for approval to the Union government.In response to a query raised in the state legislative assembly over the state government's delay in forwarding the proposal, Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan said the government had already given an approval to the Vanaz-Ramwadi route. "The government is now working on finalising the proposal for phase one of the Pune Metro, which includes the routes from Vanaz to Ramwadi and Swargate to Pimpri Chinchwad. The 31.5-km rail route of phase one is estimated to cost Rs 10,183 crore," he said.

"Thus, the proposal after getting it cleared from various state government departments will be forwarded to the Union government for its final approval," Chavan said.Earlier, the elected representatives pointed out that the proposal was pending with the state government for the last six months. As per the proposal, the Union and state governments would fund 20 per cent each of the project cost, while the PMC and PCMC will have to contribute 10 per cent. "The state finance department has sought explanation on the metro rail route passing through Alandi road," said Congress MLC Mohan Joshi, who raised the issue in the state legislative council.
