Members of East Coast Railway Engineers Association (ECoREA) have staged demonstration in front of offices of General Manager and Chief Workshop Manager at Bhubaneswar and Divisional Railway Managers’offices at Khurda Road and Sambalpur.Engineers were protesting against alleged negligence and negative attitude towards them by the Railway Board.They also submitted a memorandum addressed to Union Railway Minister Pawan Kumar Bansal drawing his attention on 22 demands.“Although engineers have been assigned with multifarious responsibilities and made to work round the clock under worst weather conditions, salary of non-technical staff such as teachers, accountant and nurses was made equal with that of engineers in sixth Pay Commission,” ECoREA said in the memorandum mentioning that non-technical staff were placed below the engineers in the fifth Pay Commission recommendations.The association members said Indian Railways was the biggest engineering organisation in the country, but there was no separate recognised platform for the engineers.“Policies beneficial to for engineers are not being implemented by Railway Board.,” ECoREA said.The demonstration was staged by engineers as decided by All India Railway Engineers Federation (AIREF). | ||
