Railway police on Tuesday recovered 1.05 kg of gold jewellery, a part of the 12.847 kg of jewellery that were stolen on a moving train near Erode.An unidentified gang had stolen 12.847 kg of gold jewellery from three employees of a Chennai-based wholesale jewellery store - Varadharam, Madhan Singh and Jitendra Singh, when the trio were travelling in the Thiruvananthapuram-Chennai Express around 2 a.m. on September 23 last year.The employees allegedly kept the jewellery in two suitcases and secured these to the seats using a chain and a lock before going to sleep. A few unidentified persons cut the chain and decamped with the two suitcases containing the jewellery. The employees reported the incident to Erode railway police and a case was registered. Railway police launched an investigation and arrested eight members of the gang in Solapur district in Maharashtra four months ago and recovered 208 grams of the stolen jewellery. It was revealed during the investigation that the members of the gang had sold the jewellery at a few jewellery stores in Solapur district. Police formed a special team to recover the jewellery that were sold by the gang.The team found that one of the stores in Solapur district purchased the jewellery from the gang. The team conducted a surprise check in the store and recovered 1.05 kg of jewellery. Police said teams were also sent to Maharashtra and Gujarat to recover all the jewellery that were stolen from the employees on the train. | ||
