An appeal under Right to Information Act (RTI) by the Civil Society, Adilabad, has revealed shocking information about the condition of railway track on the Vani-Pimpalkutti section of the Adilabad-Nagpur railway line.

The information furnished by Central Railway, Mumbai, reveals that the section in question is made of old and second hand rails which slows down the speed of trains considerably.

The Civil Society, represented by Suresh Pataskar, had asked the Central Railway and the South Central Railway to explain the reason for trains taking as many as 7 hours to cover a distance of just 264 kms between Adilabad and Nagpur. Though the SCR is yet to reply, the Central Railway even revealed that 40 per cent of the track passes through bad formation and both the problems can be rectified only through rail renewal.

Mr. Pataskar, who could land with the information after twice being stonewalled by Railway authorities, had written to Chandrapur MP Hansraj Ahir to help set things right. He has also appealed to the Central Railway to rectify the track and ease the problem faced by passengers.
