DURGAPUR : The discovery of some 150 copies of petitions officially received by the Justice Shyamal Sen Commission that is investigating the Saradha Group Ponzi scam beside the railway tracks in Kalna in Burdwan last night has caused a sensation. This morning, villagers were seen carrying copies of the purported petitions, bearing the official seal of the Commission (in photo) in Purba Satgachia locality between Kalna and Guptipara Railway stations. GRP officials seized a few such copies. It was suspected that someone might have thrown the copies from a running train. The SP, Burdwan, Mr S M H Meerza said: “Five EPICs were also found from the spot beside the tracks. The EPIC’s and the petition papers bear the names and addresses of persons from different villages in Murshidabad district and Pakur district in Jharkhand.” Mr Bapi Mukherjee, a resident of Purba Satgachia village, found the petition copies lying beside the track and informed it to other villagers. Mr Mukherjee said: “I was surprised to see the bundle of documents tied with a cloth lying beside the track. After opening the bunch, I understood the importance of the papers and informed the matter to the GRP.” “The papers recovered were the received copies and bore the official seal of the Commission,” confirmed Mr Meerza. The recovery, meanwhile, has triggered off a political controversy in the district. Mr Binoy Chakraborty, district president, Citu alleged: “It appears that the functioning of the Commission cannot be beyond suspicion. The entire matter needs to be investigated properly – why the papers were dumped beside the track. We suspect an ulterior motive behind this. We think it was done purposedly to deprive the common investors so that they cannot get back their investments.” | ||
