To minimise risks in Delhi Metro's Phase III construction, a centralised data management system of Tunnel Boring Machines (TBM) has been installed, a Delhi Metro official said Sunday.According to Delhi Metro, 34 TBMs will be used to dig 74 tunnels, which will be 53 km long, for its underground corridors in Delhi and the National Capital Region (NCR) in Phase III."The centralised data management system will act as a tool for data acquisition, visualisation and reporting. It will also minimise risk as it will provide immediate information on progress of the tunnels and correctness of the tunnel alignment, ground settlement and status of buildings and structures along the underground alignment," the metro statement said.Metro officials added that use of 34 TBMs will be the highest number put to work in any urban centre in the world."Tunnels in Phase III are going to pass under railway tracks and under high rise building, flyovers and ring roads," officials added.



"The centralised data management system will consist of a map showing the entire TBMs position. It will also be useful to monitor tunnelling and its influence on existing buildings real time monitoring and comparison within expected and limiting values," the statement said.

In Phase II, when 34.89 km of underground corridors were built, Delhi Metro had used 14 TBMs.

"The tunnelling of Phase III will be completed by mid-2015. Three tunnels for the section from Central Secretariat to Mandi House have already been dug," the statement added.

With the completion of Phase-III in 2016, the Delhi Metro will cover almost 70 percent of Delhi.
