A heavy downpour disrupted suburban as well as outstation services on Central and Western Railway Friday. Express trains such as Rajdhani and August Kranti were delayed by 10 hours. Local trains were running slow and around 100 were cancelled on CR and WR.Services on WR suffered the most after water released from Modak Sagar dam flooded tracks between Nallasopara and Virar stations. Traffic was suspended on up and down slow lines from 1 pm and on the fast line from 1.24 pm. It was restored around 1.55 pm.In this period, trains were diverted from Vasai and Bhayander stations."Water is likely to be released again from Modak Sagar. It may affect our operations," said an WR official.Water-logging on tracks and breaches on the down line at a bridge between Atul and Pardi stations was reported near Valsad. Around 3.30 am Friday, railway officials headed by Mumbai division manager Sandeep Silas rushed to the site where the bridge appeared a bit bent.The bridge was repaired at 6 pm using material brought in 10 wagons. In the meanwhile, four outstation trains were cancelled, six rescheduled and three terminated midway.Traffic resumed near Valsad at 1.20 pm.On the central line, continuous and heavy rain resulted in water-logging on up and down slow lines between Diva and Mumbra from 9.55 am to 10.30 am and 10.55 am to 11.50 am. Services were diverted to the fast line between Diva and Thane. Six locals were held up due to water-logging.A CR spokesperson said, "Suburban services were running 20-25 minutes behind schedule, 18 services were diverted and 33 cancelled."Incessant rain since Friday morning also flooded low-lying areas such as Hindamata, King's Circle, Elphinstone Road West, Bhandup West, S V Road near R D National College and Sion Road 24, said a BEST spokesperson.Route C-61 from Mulund to Mira Road broke down at Bhayander due to water-logging. "No services were cancelled," the BEST spokesperson claimed. | ||
