KOCHI: The district administration began the process of handing over compensation to land owners who provided their land for Muttom yard on Tuesday. The yard is part of Kochi Metro project. As the first step in the process, the authorities handed over Rs 27 lakh. The Kochi Metro Rail Ltd had acquired 41 acre of land from 106 people through district administration. They have fixed land value at Rs 1.02 lakh per cent. District collector P I Sheik Pareeth has said that as they complete the procedure of verification of documents they will release the compensation amount. The land acquired by the administration has been handed over to Delhi Metro Rail Corporation ( DMRC) to begin construction works. The collector said that they were carrying out land reclamation activities at Muttom and intended to complete the works before monsoon. KMRL handed over an additional amount Rs 34.18 crore more to district administration for executing land acquisition. The metro agency said that the fund would be used mainly for the land acquisition at Muttom. With this KMRL handed over more than Rs 76 crore for land acquisition process of Kochi Metro.
