Ludhiana: An expectant woman delivered a baby on a train during her journey from Delhi to Ludhiana yesterday. Janki Devi (22) and her husband Vinod Kumar were coming to the city from their native village in Uttar Pradesh. They had boarded the Pashim Express, which arrived at the Ludhiana railway station at 4.30 pm yesterday.Vinod Kumar said Janki started getting labour pains near Ambala and she delivered a girl child before reaching the Ludhiana junction.The couple lives at Paundori village near Mullanpur and had married last year. It was the couple's first child. The mother and the baby are doing fine.The railway staff on the train informed the Ludhiana control room which arranged an ambulance by calling 108."We had received a call form the railway station and were there before the train reached the station. The woman had delivered a baby before the train reached the station. We gave her preliminary treatment at the station. We took them to the Civil Hospital where senior doctors examined them. Doctors said both the mother and the babay were healthy," said Bikramjeet Singh, driver of the ambulance. |
